PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

News and Notices

Surplus Property
The Purchasing Division is responsible for managing the disposition of surplus property in accordance with Section 3.24.020 of the City of Soledad Municipal Code. When a department wishes to retire an asset, the Purchasing Officer will first determine whether the item can be transferred and repurposed internally by conducting outreach to other departments. If there is no internal interest or viable use within the organization, the item will then be listed for public sale through GovDeals, an online auction platform specializing in government surplus. This process ensures responsible asset management, transparency, and the opportunity to recover value from equipment or supplies that are no longer suitable for city use.

City Projects

Front Street Maintenance Project
Enhancing Safety, Accessibility, and Appeal in Our Downtown! The City of Soledad is advancing with street improvements along Front Street. What started as a basic maintenance project has evolved into a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of our downtown area. This project will address the following issues: • Damaged sidewalks and gutters caused by the tree roots, which uplifted sidewalks and curbs, resulting in drainage problems and making it difficult for some businesses to open their front doors. • Accessibility Concerns due to the current conditions that do not comply with ADA standards and create challenges for pedestrians. • Pedestrian lighting bollards that are damaged, ineffective, and produce glare for drivers. • Necessary traffic Improvements at key intersections, including San Vicente Road, East Street, Oak Street, and Nestles Road. In addition to addressing the many issues, this project has been expanded to include the area between Moranda Road and Nestles Road. Added improvements include new safety features to help drivers comply with the new state law (AB 413), which involves parking restrictions near crosswalks to improve visibility and pedestrian safety. Special attention will be given to areas such as the Benito and Front Street intersection to enhance visibility and safety.
La Cuesta Tank Cleaning
The City of Soledad Public Works Water Division is pleased to announce the completion of an important maintenance project for two of the city’s water storage tanks. The City contracted with LiquiVision Technology to conduct a comprehensive cleaning and inspection of the La Cuesta Water Storage Tanks located adjacent to Lum and Peverini Park. This maintenance involved removing all sediment and debris from the reservoir's floor and bottom and cleaning the side walls. Such maintenance is essential for ensuring a reliable water supply, helping to maintain consistent flow and pressure for our community. Regular upkeep is crucial for both water quality and the long-term reliability and efficiency of our infrastructure. This project highlights Soledad’s commitment to proactive water system maintenance and the use of modern technologies to enhance service and sustainability.

FUTURE PROJECTS

Recycled Water Conveyance Project
This summer, construction is set to start on the Recycled Water Conveyance pipeline system designed to deliver reclaimed water for irrigating the City’s parks, some landscaping, and Soledad school turf areas, promoting sustainable water use. Approximately 54 million gallons per year of potable well water will be replaced with recycled water produced at the City’s Water Reclamation facility. This project will also enable the City and SUSD to irrigate sports fields during future drought periods. Although somewhat common in other parts of the state, Soledad will be the first agency in our region to irrigate parks and school fields with renewable, recycled water.
